Everything you ever wanted to know about
Jamie's Fund and Holly Street Rocks!
What is Jamie's Fund?
As a 503(c)3
organization, Holly Street’s focus is to provide quality childcare to Nashville’s families, regard
less of their financial status. When we opened our doors over 29 years ago, that meant accepting state vouchers for daycare and receiving funding from local and national charitable organizations.
We’ve seen a lot of changes in
the neighborhood since then, and the demand for quality childcare in East Nashville has increased beyond our imagination. Changes with state certificates, United Way funding, and our own population, changed what it meant to provide assistance to families. Today, we have Jamie's Fund. It is completely donation-funded and is used to help families on certificate or during temporary financial hardship.
Why is Jamie's Fund important?
Holly Street is a nonprofit organization and a top childcare facility, but first and foremost
we’re a part of our
community. Jamie's Fund provides tuition assistance to families dealing with financial setbacks that threaten their access to childcare.
That may mean sudden or extended illness, job loss, disaster (such as 2010’s flood), or
other temporary circumstances.
How does a family qualify for Jamie's Fund assistance?
Assistance funds are given on a case-by-case basis at the Director’s discretion.
We generally require that families meet the USDA guidelines as an income criteria.
Do any other daycares have a similar program?
None that we know of in Nashville. Holly Street is unique in that we make it an official part of our mission to provide consistent childcare when families need it most, instead of terminating the relationship when a family
can’t pay tuition.
How are the funds raised?
At this time, Jamie's Fund is supported by small grants and the proceeds of our signature wine tasting/ silent auction fundraiser, Holly Street Rocks!
What happens when the funds run out?
When the fund is depleted, we still try our best to find creative ways to help our families stay at Holly Street, but our options are severely limited. We hope to never be in this position, which is why we put so much effort into Holly Street Rocks!
Holly Street Daycare is a not-for-profit United Way Agency.
Why Holly Street Rocks?
Over the years, we’ve tried different kinds of fundraisers, sales, and stunt
s to help support our families. What
we’ve found is that pouring all of our energy and volunteer efforts into one great event yields more than several
fundraisers spaced throughout the year. The first event was organized in 2003, and it has grown every year since.
How does Holly Street Rocks raise enough for the year?
Ticket sales from Holly Street Rocks! are just one piece of the puzzle-- and the more people we can invite from the Nashville community, the smaller the burden placed on existing Holly Street families to make the fundraiser a success.
The event also includes a state-licensed
Raffle,
which creates an easy way for parents to gather donations for minimal hassle and 100% profit. We ask each family to try to sell 10 tickets for $10 each.
The
silent and live auctions
at the Holly Street Rocks! event bring in a large portion of our proceeds.
It’s amazing to see how many generous East Nashville businesses donate goods and services to help
Holly Street families.
How can I get involved?
We need parents and community members to help with everything from picking up auction items and setting up our space to pouring wine and coordinating with other parents. Planning usually starts in April for what has traditionally been a September/October event. Please visit www.hollystreetrocks.org for more information.
