Holly Street Daycare is a non-profit daycare that has been providing care to Nashville families
for over 40 years. Our multi-building campus has served hundreds of families and thousands of
children at the corner of Holly Street and S. 14th Street in the heart of Lockeland Springs. Our
mission is to improve the health, safety, and welfare of children by providing exceptional,
affordable childcare in a loving and safe environment. Our goal is for children to enter school
confidently – ready and able to learn. We have worked incredibly hard to maintain quality of
care, earning the State of Tennessee’s highest-standard Rating with a minimal operating
budget typical of a non-profit entity.
Holly Street Daycare was directly impacted by the March 2020 Nashville tornado, and our
building closest to the corner of Holly and 14th (the Toddler House) was significantly damaged.
We have three buildings on our campus, and the loss of the Toddler House has had a dramatic
impact on our ability to provide care to the roughly 100 children we currently serve.
The State of Tennessee has reported that 30% of daycare facilities across the state permanently
closed in the spring of 2020 because they were unable to weather the financial challenges
posed by the pandemic. Holly Street Daycare has so far been able to weather both COVID and
the tornado through the nimble thinking of our Executive Director and Board of Directors and
the flexibility of our families, but we do not have a long term solution without the expansion
and restoration of The Toddler House.
The children and families who are alumni of Holly Street Daycare continue to be part of our
family. When the tornado hit we were humbled by the outpouring of financial and moral
support from our families and all of our Lockeland Springs neighbors. Our community is ready to
help us recover and move forward. The charitable and beneficial care that Holly Street provides
is critical to the families we serve and to our greater community, and we hope to be able to
continue providing childcare for generations to come.
